Hongik University SDP(Self Development Plan) Program, Selected as an Exemplary Case of Career Education
Hongik University's Self Development Plan(SDP) Program is selected as an exemplary case of career education according to '2016 investigation on the university career education program' conducted by Korean Council of University Education(KCUE) and Presidential Committee on Young Generation.
Since May, KCUE and Presidential Committee on Young Generation had invited the universities across the country for the investigation, thereby 144 programs from 121 universities were applied. Reviewed by professional experts and gone through field survey, only 21 programs in four areas: career exploration, employment, start-up, career system made it on the list. Hongik University's SDP Program is honored to be selected in the area of career exploration.
30th of November, KCUE and Presidential Committee on Young Generation held policy forum for "Expansion of the Best Career Education Cases and Future Tasks" and presented award certificates to 21 universities including Hongik University at Centennial Hall of Chung-ang University. A brochure containing SDP Program and other honored programs will be issued around middle of December.
Jeonghee Kim, the team manager of KCUE, and Jincheol Jeong, the professor of Seoul National University, pointed that each university is supposed to ① expand the curriculum of majors ② increase the number of maximum enrollment for the career development programs ③ keep making an effort to improve the quality of career education ④ establish the promotion strategy targeting students ⑤ provide practical information about career and job application in detail ⑥ avoid psychologically enforcing its students to get employed, while giving presentation of "The Current Situation and Future Tasks for University Career Education"
During the forum, the participants agreed with the fact that career education is no longer choice but compulsory, and career education has become the necessary and sufficient condition to make students brilliant men who will succeed the sustainable development.
An official from Presidential Committee on Young Generation said, "We are willing to keep speaking for the young in higher education and suggesting policies by holding such forums for public debate on the current situation of university career education."
SDP Program of Hongik University, non-curricular career education program, which is being operated by college of law, provides opportunities for students having trouble deciding their future career to get help from the advisers and plan their career in stages.
