The ocean is the last remaining repository of mankind and contributes enormously to the development of mankind, including economy, culture, and industry. Human beings are receiving a lot of resources through the ocean, such as food resources, oil and natural gas, and deep sea ore, and the ocean will also play a role in solving the ever-expanding population and residential areas. Countries around the world are committed to marine development in response to this need, building high barriers to developed technologies and preventing technology leakage to other countries. In 1974, Korea first dried and exported offshore oil drilling rigs, one of the major offshore structures, and since then, it has become a producer of offshore structures internationally by building large oil drilling rigs and large fixed offshore structures. However, advanced design technologies and related basic research are lagging behind advanced technology countries, and these countries are building up their own technology protection barriers, which makes it difficult for us to develop our own technologies and disciplines. In this domestic and international situation, this Research Center of Marine System has been established to carry out basic and applied research related to marine system technology field at university level, to train research personnel, to advance marine technology of our country, to enhance international competitiveness and to practical industry-university cooperation. This research center also has a mission to contribute to the development of the region through research on marine development in the Chungnam area and the west coast area in the coming west coast era. This research center will establish a research and development system and strive to build Korea in the 21st century. We in this research center will do our best to raise our country to a marine advanced country as soon as possible.
